Separation of Church & State Fallacy .. Thanks Metkel

Fellow Conservatives from the Right Chat Room:

Below is an article I wrote and which appeared in my local newspaper here in West Virginia. Thought I might share it with you. Have a Merry Christmas and God's blessings to you and your families! Metkel (Kelli)

I was greatly disappointed after reading the article in the Herald Dispatch-- "Holiday Programs Change" which described how schools are toning down their religious content for musicals and programs: "The Prince & the Penguin" & "Teddy Bear Christmas". Afterall, isn't it CHRISTmas? The celebration of the Lord's birth? Many Americans, organizations and schools have been led astray with the fallacy of "separation of Church and State." No where will you find those 5 words in our constitution. This article of the first amendment was a means to keep America from establishing a state religion such as the Church of England. The framers intended it to keep government out of religion, not religion out of government. The myth of separation of church and state came from a letter by Thomas Jefferson to a Baptist clergyman in 1802 who feared the Congregationalist Church would become the state-sponsored religion. This comment by Jefferson has been misconstrued since the Supreme Court ruling in 1947. If you look at the writings of the founders of our country, you will see that each and every one of them had a reverence of God. I urge my fellow West Virginians, do no fall for the myth of separation of church and state. It does not exist. Let's not reduce the birth of our Lord and Savior to a penguin or teddy bear. He was born, was crucified, was buried and has risen. He is alive! And we should never forget that Christmas is because of Jesus!
