Thanks JWCO

I recently sent this off to the New York Times "Letter To The Editor" page... it might be interesting and barely humorous to some of the FTRers, ;)

Dear EDITOR, New York Times:

One of your Cybernet adversaries suggests that The New York Times management may be in a quandary as to whether to fess up and declare that either this century is only 99 years long, or that some of the current NYT columnists are walking around in a daze thinking that December 31 actually ends the 20th century- as many of them have suggested in their writings.

President Clinton seemed to think that this year was the end of it as he talked repeatedly about 'building a bridge to the 21st century' during his campaign for office in 1996.

Knowing his propensity for telling the truth, how can the Times be confused? I mean if Bill Clinton says it's so; who should question his veracity?

And what's the fuss about telling the truth got to do with anything? Who cares if it's the end of a century or the beginning of a new one? The economy is doing great; stocks continue to rise; unemployment is down and Greenspan has a handle on inflation. Life is good. Who cares about millenniums?

And isn't it the job of a great newspaper to merely create the news nowadays instead of reporting facts as they see them? So let's ignore the fact that the 20th Century actually ends in about 13 months.

John E. Wright
